Bio

Seasoned attorney with substantial background in Internet law, defamation law (libel and slander), privacy law, intellectual property (trademark, copyright, trade secrets), as well as representing startups, entrepreneurs, and businesses.

Following state appellate and federal district clerkships, and tenure in the commercial litigation and emerging technology groups of a large New England firm, I founded my law firm in 2001. Since then, Mudd Law Offices has grown to represent an international clientele of individuals and businesses in varied professions and sectors.

In addition to being licensed in Illinois, Indiana, Utah and Connecticut, I have litigated Internet, defamation and privacy cases (e.g., eavesdropping and email hacking) in trial and appellate courts throughout the U.S. Among diverse areas, this includes representing those defamed, those sued for protectable free speech (anonymous or not), and service providers.

Alongside litigation, I represent entrepreneurs and businesses from concept to varied growth stages. I advise on general corporate matters as well as consult on IP matters, social media use and control, as well as terms of use and privacy policies. In March 2012, I founded Startup Radio (www.startupradio.com) to help entrepreneurs, founders and startups.

Since authoring "The Emerging Realm of Electronic Law and Policy" in 1994, I have been immersed in effectuating legal and policy development to protect individuals and businesses in the dynamic arena of online environments. Recently, this includes developing issues in virtual environments.

I serve as Chair of the Illinois State Bar Association Intellectual Property Section; Vice-Chair of the Social Media and Gaming Committee of the International Technology Law Association; and an organizing member of the Internet Law Leadership Summit.

My community involvement includes serving as Board Member for the Historic Park City Alliance and the Lyons Township Community Advisory Council.
